The humans of Otherland are trapped in a thousand-year-old war between their neighbors to the north and to the south. A pact had long kept the humans out of the conflict. But no sooner had their old king’s last breath evaporated into the dry castle air, the new Regent breaks the pact. He sends exploratory parties to the forest in the west and to the mountains in the north draw. The movement shows a growing restlessness among the humans and it does not go unnoticed by their neighbors. The time for neutrality is over for Otherland.
