recent songs on my playlists
April 14, 2008 8:55 amThere’s been a few songs that’ve come up more on my playlists lately (on purpose). I figured I’d share them with other folks.
One guy I recommend (if you’re into Teh Funny) is James at War. He’s a parody artist, and quite a good one. He first caught my attention with Blame Halo 3 a parody of Akon’s Sorry, Blame It on Me. His other parodies include Popstar, a spoof of Nickelback’s Rockstar. But by far, my favorite is ShatnerBack, a parody of Justin Timberlake’s SexyBack.
A band that’s also got a song playing a lot (and having me play it for friends who happen to be nearby) is Ludo’s Love Me Dead, which includes lines such as
“You’re awful! I love you!”
That line also happens to be the title of their recent album, You’re Awful, I Love You.
Speaking of albums, R.E.M’s got a new one out called Accelerate, an album that’s much closer to their roots than their recent offerings have been. Meaning, it’s a rock/alt album sans the superslo-tempo of the albums they’d had since Monster. A song to start out on in sampling the flavor of the album is Supernatural Superserious. I’ve also taking a liking to Until the Day is Done, one that’s the more low-key, because apparently that appeals to me.
Moby’s also got a new album out by the name of Last Night. One high-energy popping up on my playlist lots has been Disco Lies. Joining it is the downtempo Mothers of the Night.
Have I mentioned that I’ve got very eclectic tastes? Yeah, sure do.
Another band that’s got my ear is The Faunts. They got my attention by their song being played during the credits of the xbox 360 gameMass Effect. It’s called M4, Pt. 2. Actually, the entire soundtrack to the game is pretty good. The, um, game is too. Not that I’ve been obsessing with it lately.
Not at all. No, it certainly hasn’t caused me to be MIA!
…okay, maybe it has. We’ll get to that later. With different post.

Re: Commenting Spam
My replies to all of you are as follows:
Are you there?… Thanks for clearing this up ….
No, I’m not. Ever.
Do you mind to post some more information about this ?…
Ellipsis? Sure.
Ellipsis
Pronunciation: \i-ˈlip-səs, e-\
Function: noun
Etymology: Latin, from Greek elleipsis ellipsis, ellipse, from elleipein to leave out, fall short, from en in + leipein to leave.
Date: 1540
You’ll have to look up the definition yourself, though. While you’re at it, look up the definition for no.
As always a good post
….
Pfft. Of course.

three blocks from my apartment
April 2, 2008 5:00 amThere was a fire last night. Now, we heard sirens, but thought nothing of them, because the street running on one side of our building is the street one of the fire stations uses often. Since it was warm (relatively, as in, 60 degrees) yesterday, we had the windows open.
I smell smoke. There’s different kinds of smoke, as I’m sure you all know. Charcoal smoke, cigarette smoke, campfire smoke, etc. Then there’s housefire smoke. That’s what we smelled. Since it was strong, we went outside to investigate. Que the ‘holy shit’ moment at seeing flames beyond the buildings next to ours. Something to note: flames are often more far away than they appear. As in, we thought it was just a couple houses over, not three blocks. Walking outside again, we get this view from just across our street.
Of course, that photo was taken before the billowing smoke really got ahold of the neighborhood. That part wasn’t long in coming, that’s for sure.

The smoke was so thick in the neighborhood that you had trouble seeing what houses were what and what street you were on. A fog of smoke, really.

Nathan also insisted that we broke a cardinal rule of suspense/horror movies by going toward the scene of shit going down. I explained that it wasn’t aliens or UFO’s or mysterious holes in the ground. He didn’t buy it.

But I don’t think firefighters look like aliens, not in the least.

Though, apparently, the lights on the ladders and trucks they use could be construed as alien-like in origin.

According to Nathan.

Not me.

The Union Leader has an ongoing story about the fire at their website.
