I saw this meme on Robin’s LJ and I thought it was really interesting.
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4-7 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don’t dig for the “coolest” or “most intellectual-sounding” book in your collection! (You were thinking about it, weren’t you?) Just pick up whatever is closest.
6. Tag five people.*
*I’m not tagging anyone, you guys can tag yourselves. Oh… that sounded dirty.
Here’s what I got—
“General Grant asked for water, and so did Marie Curie. And Lenin.”
“That’s funny,” Richard said. “You’d expect Lenin’s last words to be ‘Workers, arise!’ or somthing.”
Vielle shook her head. “The eternal verities aren’t what’s on people’s minds when they’re dying. They’re much more concerned with the matter at hand.”
—Passage, Connie Willis
The book was actually the one nearest me. I actually thought it was going to be Prisoner’s Hope by David Feintuch, but apparently Nathan knocked it to the floor this morning. Passage, however, maintained its place on the coffee table. I actually just finished it yesterday. It was pretty good.
