strangely disturbing

Some of you know about the spate of nightmares I’ve been having for the past month. Enough that I’m actively avoiding sleep, which, I know, is bad.

So, last night, when I had nightmares about zombies, it wasn’t really scary. I mean, theoretically, we know how to deal with zombies. Unlike, say, the stuff of my “normal” nightmares (of which we will not speak). Since zombies aren’t quite the unknown as something like human emotion tied to human memory, in some weird way, they come off as not quite so frightening.

Today, I felt like sharing with my friends. I told Ethan. Here’s the gist:

Me: “I dreamed about zombies… almost comforting, really.”
Ethan: “You’re all kinds of fucked up. No offense.”

And xnera:

Me: “…like, I’m not even sure it qualified as a nightmare.”
xnera: *snerks*

I also told Olivia:

Me: “I dreamed about zombies. Not scary, in comparison.”
Olivia: “In comparison to what?”
Me: “My ‘normal’ nightmares.”
Olivia: “Oh, I didn’t realize it was a zombie nightmare.”
Me: “Generally, dreams about zombies would be nightmares.”
Olivia: “Not in my family. I hear about my kids’ zombie dreams all the time.”
Me: “…however, people in my life are not ‘we.’”

Let me repeat that. The people in my life are not ‘we.’

That means they are awesome.
