Meaning, the hubble telescope takes photos that are truly awe-worthy when you see them. One got my attention last night, a composite of the Carina Nebula—

What I’ve also come to discover is that the site for the hubble telescope in of itself, is awesome.

When I saw the little photo of the Carina Nebula in a CNN.com news story, I thought to myself Wow, that would be fantastic wallpaper. Before this, my wallpaper had been a Martian Sunset—

Now, the sunset has always fascinated me because at first it looks like it could be from Earth. Then you realize something isn’t quite right… and that’s because the sun is a hell of a lot smaller than it would be on Earth. Then you realize that holy shit, you’re looking at a sunset from another planet.

Anyway. I did a google search and meandered over to the hubble telescope site and found their Wallpaper Section. I promptly downloaded the one for the Carina Nebula and can’t stop looking at it.

Truly awesome.

Then I poked around some more and realize that the hubble site has large photos on the site, photos optimized to print out all nice and pretty. The sizes range from 4×6 to 16×20. For Free.

This makes me wistful for my childhood and the hours I’d spend paging through the National Geographic Picture Atlas of Our Universe. You know, I’d still want to be an astronaut if it were at all possible.
